Dr. Mohamed M. Arafa - President

Mohamed M. Arafa is an internationally renowned research and media development consultant based in Atlanta, Georgia. He founded GMC® in 2005 and has brought to it a wealth of expertise and over 25 years of teaching, research, and professional communications experience to help clients achieve tangible growth and bottom-line results. Professor Arafa’s academic and professional experience spans North America and the Middle East, where he has been able to provide context and share perspectives on where media industries (both new and traditional), and their consumers, have been and where they are headed.

While teaching journalism and serving as a Research & Publishing Consultant for Al-Ahram (Pyramids) Publishing House in Cairo, Dr. Arafa founded and was the first CEO of Ahram Media-Buy Research Center AMBRC, one of the most successful media research centers in the region. At AMBRC, Dr. Arafa prepared, wrote and presented research proposals; established contacts with international clients; planned and executed client presentations and headed research teams. He also carried out public communication campaigns testing, advertising campaign tracking/evaluating; and conducted research measuring television audience responses to programming and promotional methods & strategies.

In addition to over 25 years of research and teaching experience, Dr. Arafa wrote and free lanced for a number of print and electronic media outlets in the US and the Arab world. He also lent his media research and training experience to such reputable organizations and research centers such US-AID, the Hans Seidel Foundation of Bavaria, the UNESCO, ALESCO, and a number of departments in the US, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt.

Professor Arafa has been an award winning professor of international communication; print, broadcast, and online journalism; communication theory; and research methods at several universities and colleges in the US and the Arab world. He is also a well established media scholar with emphasis on global communication and media in the Middle East. In addition to four books, he has published scholarly research in most international and professional communication journals worldwide. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia, MA and BA from the University of Cairo.
